A study of what we really are. Merely Human.
How do we view ourselves? Innocent pawns?
Corrupt devils? Perhaps a little of both?
Why do we do the things we do?
As Paul questioned, "why do I do the things I shouldn't,
yet do the things I should not (paraphrased from Romans,
Chapter 7).
Mere Humanity.
A borrowing and redesign of C.S. Lewis' title
"Mere Christianity."
What are the REAL consequences of "original sin?"
Why is the need for salvation
DEMANDEDby those with an understanding of our humanity--first?
Mere Humanity is the flip-side of Mere Christianity, but in a different
way: it is meant to pose a logical argument:
If salvation is the great station that we as Christians claim it is, then why
does it have to be sold?
Do we really understand our humanity? Do we really know why the Bible
adjures us to not be judges of each other—as we are not
yet qualified observers of our own human condition?
Do we really know what sin is—and how a full understanding
of it as not only acts that we commit, but a state that
we live in—should DRIVE us to Christ?
This study is the very beginning—an Advanced Idea Mechanic
—of the challenge of understanding humanity FIRST—
and then finding in the understanding of ourselves the
overwhelming need for salvation.
